Under the Canopy is a contemporary residential extension designed around the relationship between shelter, landscape and everyday living. Positioned beneath the branches of a mature tree, the architecture feels carefully inserted into the garden rather than imposed upon it. Vertical timber cladding brings warmth to the dark structural framework, while generous glazing creates a visual connection between the interior and the surrounding planting. The broad overhanging roof forms a sheltered threshold between house and garden, allowing the terrace to function as an outdoor room protected from direct sunlight and changing weather. The design deliberately contrasts the weight and texture of the existing masonry with the lighter expression of the new extension. This distinction allows the contemporary addition to remain legible while still harmonising with the natural setting through its restrained material palette and modest scale.
